Our Teachers

To maintain the highest standards of teaching, our teacher Certification levels take many years of study and hard work, under the guidance of a Senior teacher .These Senior teachers (or Mentors) have worked directly with BKS Iyengar and family members Geeta, Prashant ,and Abhijata Iyengar .They have gained a high level of practice and knowledge to impart to their trainees.
Once a teacher has gained the first Certification Level 1, they will continue under a Senior teacher to progress through to the higher levels 2,3,4.This involves regular Professional Development and ongoing contact with a Senior teacher .They then present themselves to be assessed in front of a committee of 4 Senior teachers to attain each level.
The Australian Certification board along with the IYA Australian association, regulates this Certification process carefully and aims to oversee a high level of teacher conduct and ethical practices .

Lulu Bull - Principal & Senior Level 3 Teacher

My journey with Iyengar Yoga began in 1984, in the Haymarket, Sydney. In 1986, I was offered to teach “all of the morning classes” at The Sydney Yoga Centre and I never looked back. The practice, the expression, the insights, the language of yoga captivated me and I grew to love it with a passion. I co-founded the Newton Yoga Room with my ex-husband in 1987 and we both taught there for 12 years. We moved to the Blue Mountains in the early 90’s and set up the Blue Mountains Yoga Studio in Katoomba in 1994. The studio ran in Katoomba for 28 years, in 2022 the studio re located to Blackheath .

Over the years, I have regularly visited {and continue to} the Iyengar Yoga Institute in Pune, India, to attend classes with BKS Iyengar, his daughter Geeta and son Prashant and now grand daughter Abhijata . I have gained the various levels of teaching certificates and at present hold a Senior Ievel 3 certificate. I have been a board member of the BKS Iyengar Association, and Teacher Rep. At present I am the Chair of the Australian Certification Committee which regulates all teacher certification in Australia, and regularly sit as an assessor for teachers nationwide. I run teacher training programmes within the Studio ,and conduct workshops and retreats nationwide .

I feel blessed to have this practice in my life. It sustains me and humbles me daily. The experience of a regular practice brings both personal insights and a sense of connection, not only to my inner world but also to others around me. I feel honoured to be able to live, practice and teach in the Blue Mountains community and landscape, and to be surrounded by a wonderful group of teachers and students who continue to support and teach me everyday.
