Understanding Inversions

  • Blue Mountains Iyengar Yoga Studio 38 Govetts Leap Road Blackheath, NSW, 2785 Australia (map)

With: Anna
Cost: $40
Level 1 / 1 - 2

‘Savangasana is the Mother of asanas. As a mother strives for harmony and happiness in a home, so this asana strives for harmony and happiness of the human system.’ BKS Iyengar, Light On Yoga.

This workshop is an opportunity for you as students to explore the foundations of inversions, with a focus on progressing toward Salamba Sirsasana (headstand) and Salamba Savangasana (shoulder stand)

We will work towards these poses by practicing different variations, and learning how to work with any existing injuries or doubts.

You may have noticed the importance placed on inverted poses in the Iyengar lineage, and this is because of the huge effects they bring. When we practice turning the body upside down regularly it can boost the major systems of the body, rest the heart and nervous system plus many other benefits.

This workshop can help you build confidence in how to approach inversions to take into your regular classes and encourage you to challenge yourself in a playful way.

This will be followed up with a longer workshop over the Easter weekend.
